Here's an excerpt from The 1981 Chicago Emmy Awards on WBBM Channel 2. This pertains to Category 7(B) - Entertainment Programs: For A Series, and presenters Joan McGrath and Jay Levine (WLS Channel 7) read the nominees as follows:

- Son of Svengoolie - Rich Koz, Host/Performer; Joseph Oher, Producer - WFLD Channel 32

- The New Bible Baffle - Raymond G. MacKillop, Host; Don E. Hancock, Producer - WCFC Channel 38

- Crafts with Emilie - Emilie Bishop, Host; Bruce Parrish, Producer - WCFC Channel 38

- Image Union - Tom Weinberg, Kenneth Solarz, Co-Producers - WTTW Channel 11

- Rock Of Ages - Isabel Johnson, Host; Frank Chambers (our very own Telefrank), Producer - WCIU Channel 26

- Una Cita Con Palomo - Jose F. Abarca (Palomo), Host; Frank Chambers, Producer - WCIU Channel 26

- Campus Chicago - Philip Byrd, Producer - Cablevision of Chicago

And the winner (rim shot please) . . . Son of Svengoolie, with host/performer Rich Koz (will they ever learn how to pronounce his name correctly?) joined this time by producer Joseph Oher, unlike the previous year's awards ceremony. Mr. Oher speaks first, thanking the departing WFLD General Manager Derk Zimmerman and all the crew members, particularly audio man Ken Goss, stagehand Bill Stryjewski ("who keeps track of the rubber chickens"), Rich, and Edie (?).

Next Rich gestures a la Ed Norton on The Honeymooners, before Joe barks at him to "knock it off" in the manner of Ralph Kramden.

Rich then laments how there's no chocolate underneath the gold statuettes, and mentions how this award gives more glory to Channel 32 - "Home of The Brady Bunch, Benny Hill and The Three Stooges - and that's just management!" - which he said was for the benefit of Zimmerman who left his position on this day (to become vice-president of program planning and research for Group W Satellite Communications; he subsequently rejoined WFLD as Vice President and General Manager within its 1983-86 Metromedia ownership).

Rich goes on to thank the crew and Joe whom he calls his friend and mentor before making "a slight program note" about the upcoming edition of Channel 2's The 10 O'Clock News "in which Bill Kurtis and Barbara Eden investigate the Harper Valley BGA!" (Better Government Association)

After Rich and Joe leave the stage, an excerpt from the "Annoying Cab Ride" sketch (originally aired March 7th 1981) is shown.

This is followed by the title bumper and voiceover notice (by ??) that the Sports category will be next.

This aired on local Chicago TV on Friday, June 12th 1981.
