Here's a political ad for Mayor Jane Byrne touting her success in balancing Chicago's budget, hiring more police and firemen, and instituting property tax cuts - in contrast with budget deficits facing New York City, Washington, DC and other major cities. (Alas, all these accomplishments wouldn't be enough to save her job, as before the year was out the Windy City had its first African-American mayor, Harold Washington.)
