Here's the opening and first commercial break for the premiere episode of the very short-lived series Delta House, "The Legacy," on WLS Channel 7.

The program was a spin-off of, and produced by the very same people (and studio) as, the 1978 box-office smash "National Lampoon's Animal House," with John Vernon reprising his role as Faber College's Dean Vernon Wormer from the said movie, as well as Stephen Furst as Kent Dorfman; Bruce McGill as Daniel Simpson Day; and James Widdoes as fraternity president Robert Hoover. Noticeably absent from this series was John Belushi, at this point in the middle of his final season with Saturday Night Live on NBC; his role of John "Bluto" Blutarsky would be effectively approximated in the series by Josh Mostel (Zero's son) as Jim "Blotto" Blutarsky. (It should be noted that, in this episode, in the role of "The Bombshell," was an up-and-coming future film star by the name of Michelle Pfeiffer.) Though ultimately only lasting three months, this series did have a somewhat longer run than two other pale "Animal House" imitations, Brothers and Sisters on NBC (which only ran two-and-a-half months) and Co-Ed Fever on CBS (whose run ended after only one telecast!).

This clip includes:

Brief promo for AM Chicago, previewing "the last minutes of Eight Is Enough" (voiceover by Al Parker)

(Incomplete) pre-emption notice for What's Happening?!?! (voiceover by Ernie Anderson)

Delta House opening title sequence, with production credits after cast listed:

Executive Producers - Matty Simmons, Ivan Reitman
Produced by Edward J. Montagne
Written by Harold Ramis, Douglas Kenney & Chris Miller
Based on their Screenplay for "National Lampoon's Animal House"
Directed by Alan Meyerson

Commercial: Mealtime Dog Food - "With Tail-Waggin' Taste From Meat Protein" (voiceover by ??) - (C) Kal Kan Foods, Inc. 1978

Commercial: Trailways Bus Lines - Richard Herd (from V and T.J. Hooker) as a stump speaker comparing their prices to Greyhound's - with Compare Fare at $55 or less midweek (out-of-state trips only, effective January 15th 1979) - "America, You Have a Choice"

First 40 seconds of first scene of episode

"Based on 'National Lampoon's Animal House' "

This aired on local Chicago TV on Thursday, January 18th 1979 during the 7:30pm to 8:00pm timeframe.
