Channel 6 (Nashville) - "A Primitive Weather Channel Christmas" (Excerpt, 1975)
Not from Chicago, but still of historical interest: a weird oddity - an excerpt from cable Channel 6 in Nashville, Tennessee (broadcasting in black and white), with what amounts to a primitive version of The Weather Channel, with readings of Wind Direction, Wind Velocity, Barometric Pressure, Temperature, Time, and Current Speed in MPH (just kidding). Plus, it includes a (literal) community bulletin board (including, at one point, a notice for town carolers). All this with a hypnotic, endlessly oscillating back-and-forth camera shot.
The audio was from WSM-FM 95.5, and begins with the end of a local newscast, followed by the following songs spun by Elaine Ganick (filling in for John Ferguson; to be followed at 10am by Bill Britten):
- "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer" by Burl Ives
- "Here We Come A-Caroling" by The Ray Conniff Singers
- Opening of unknown Christmas song, before recording cuts out
Also features commercials for Levy's Fashionable Men's Wear and "Season of Love" greetings promo from the station
This was recorded on Umatic 3/4" videotape by an avid I Dream of Jeannie / Barbara Eden fan, based on the contents of the other recordings. I wonder if he had this in his collection. :-)
"Call Mrs. Art Smith - 455-3256 - Any day after 1pm. (Except Wed Dec 10)"
This aired on local Nashville TV via cable on Thursday, December 25th 1975 between 9:05am and 9:13am.
