Here's a tribute to David Brinkley that aired on NBC Nightly News with John Chancellor (locally on our WMAQ Channel 5), to commemorate the veteran anchor/commentator's departure from the "Peacock Network." Seen are clips of Mr. Brinkley over the course of his run with the network, from anchoring Washington, DC cut-ins of the Camel News Caravan with John Cameron Swayze, to his wry comments during the 1956, 1960, 1964, 1968, 1972, 1976 and 1980 Presidential conventions, to his years with The Huntley-Brinkley Report (with co-anchor Chet Huntley; this partnership lasted from 1956 to 1970), to some of his documentaries (Our Man in Washington, Congress Needs Help, Our Man in Vienna, Our Man in Hong Kong and Our Man in the Mediterranean), finally closing with the final good night of The Huntley-Brinkley Report of July 31st 1970 and segueing to a more recent close from David before John closes the newscast.

Mr. Brinkley would ultimately move to ABC, where he would host what started as This Week with David Brinkley (begun from the ashes of the network's previous Sunday morning discussion show, Issues and Answers) from its debut on November 15th 1981 until his final retirement on November 10th 1996.

This aired on local Chicago TV on Saturday, September 19th 1981.
