Here's Part 5 of rare edition of the nightly Pulse newscast from WTVT Channel 13 in Tampa / St. Petersburg, Florida, transferred from the original 2" quad videotape. This was notable in featuring future Chicago TV legend Jim Ruddle anchoring out of St. Petersburg at various points. This part features Ray Dantzler in the Pulse newsroom, sports director "Salty" Sol Fleischman, and Paul Reynolds. Includes:

Ray introducing Pulse Sports with "Salty" Sol who, after sponsor billboard for Standard Oil's new Chevron oil (voiceover by ??), reports on the following:

- 195-pound halfback Larry Smith from Robinson High School is named Florida's Outstanding High School Football Player by Florida Sportswriters' Association; Sol cites a source that says Larry might not go to FSU

- Class A Florida State League (of which Tampa, St. Petersburg, Lakeland and Sarasota are members) to expand from eight to ten clubs for the next year (1965, with opening day April 19th); West Palm Beach will be one of the new teams, and the other will be in either Clearwater or Leesburg; he then notes that Earl Halstead, St. Petersburg publisher of sports books, will operate a Kansas City athletic farm at Clearwater if arrangements could be made with city; if not, according to league president George MacDonald, citrus grower Byron Herlong will operate Kansas City farm club at Leesburg

- Picture shown of Cypress Gardens water skier Bob Plouse(?), one of 40 contestants in 14th annual Water Skiing Tournament to be held next weekend; Senior Men's Events the first to be held, on Saturday (December 19th)

Sol then introduces a report by Paul Reynolds on Michigan Wolverines' previous night's game, where they beat the heretofore-unbeaten Wichita Wheatshockers which had just before, reached the top of the Associated Press poll; film footage of game is shown, with All American Guard Cazzie Russell (who would later play for the NBA in such teams as the New York Knicks, Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers) holding front and center, scoring 23 points at Detroit's Cobo Hall; Wichita's Dave Stallworth (#43; later of the Knicks and Baltimore Bullets) and guard Kelly Pete put up a good fight during the game; coach Dave Stack didn't need to do much as Michigan finally won 87-85.

Paul then reports on upcoming high school basketball battles close to home: Lakeland at Plante, Robinson at Hillsborough, Chamberlain at Jefferson, King at Brandon; Dunedin at St. Petersburg, Seminole at Northeast, Dixie Hollands taking on Largo, and Tampa at Asheville (with a side report of team manager George Sherry involved in an accident where he had to receive 43 stitches

With that, Paul signals for a commercial break and previews more interesting stories from "Salty" Sol.

Commercial: Standard Oil - with look of their traditions of service in the South from 1886 to the present day, with various improvements in their products and services - "Where We Take Better Care of Your Car" (voiceover by ??)

This aired on local Tampa / St. Petersburg TV on Tuesday, December 15th 1964 during the 6pm to 6:30pm timeframe.
