Here's Part 1 of the first broadcast of WYCC Channel 20, which rose from the ashes of the previous occupant of the Channel 20 dial, WXXW, that had left the air in 1974. Includes:

11 seconds of station ID, with '20' blinking on and off, followed (after cut off of that section on tape) by 48 seconds of message on screen (orange type on dark blue background):

WE EXPECT TO BE ON THE AIR FEB 17 AT 5 PM
WATCH FOR OUR AD IN THE SUN-TIMES
CHANNEL 20 WYCC TV CHICAGO

(TECHNICAL NOTE: During the first 25 seconds, an approx. 700 Hz tone is heard, followed by MOR piano music.)

This is then followed by 2-1/2 minutes of EIA RS-189A color bars, accompanied by jazz music

First appearance of "We are Your City Colleges" animated graphic that morphs into station logo, and station sign-on (voiceover by Program Director Elynne Chaplik):

"Good evening. This is WYCC-TV Channel 20, Chicago. Channel 20 is owned and operated by the City Colleges of Chicago, and is transmitted from the top of the John Hancock Center. We invite you to join us for our programming."

Taped messages of opening congratulations from President Ronald Reagan, U.S. Sen. Chuck Percy (R-Illinois), and Illinois Governor Jim Thompson

Opening of This Is Your College, which examines "the sights and sounds of the City Colleges of Chicago," followed by testimonials from students of the various City Colleges, and ending with a sample from Radio College 97.1

Repeat of WYCC animated Station ID

This aired on local Chicago TV on Thursday, February 17th 1983.
