WMAQ Channel 5 - NewsCenter5 - "What Can Chicago Expect From Maury Povich?" (Long Promos, 1976-77)
Here's a series of long promos (edited together here) created for the upcoming arrival of Maury Povich at WMAQ Channel 5, where he would co-anchor the 4:30pm and 6pm editions of NewsCenter5 with Ron Hunter.
There are four segments in general, each one featuring (in order of appearance): Senator Hubert H. Humphrey (D-Minnesota), Rep. Morris Udall (D-Arizona), Congressman Philip Crane (R-Illinois), and Treasury Secretary William E. Simon, all giving testimonials about what Mr. Povich will bring to Chicago viewers after years of anchoring at WTTG Channel 5 in Washington, DC. (Maury would have to wait another decade, however, before achieving nationwide fame, first as the "father" of Tabloid TV via his hosting of Fox Television's A Current Affair.)
There was some controversy raised over these ads, which eventually caused them to be pulled by Channel 5 after they ran for a week or so.
These aired on local Chicago TV in the days leading up to Monday, January 3rd 1977.
