Here's an interesting report by Frank Mathie for Eyewitness News regarding predictions for fashions in the 1980s. The report opens with scenes from the recently released "Star Trek: The Motion Picture" which came out in December of 1979.

Features comments by Luciano Franzoni - a designer of men's clothes for Hart, Schaffner and Marx. Then we see the downtown location of Marshall Field's, and comments by Sara Lister, a VP of Fashion Merchandise. Then, we hear from William Zbaren, of the "Visual Merchandise" department of Fiorucci - a store in Water Tower Place.

When the report is finished, a short blip of Jack Jones and a giggling Terry Murphy can be seen at the anchor desk, reacting to the piece they just watched.

"Like refugees from some planetary K-Mart..."

This aired on local Chicago TV most likely in early 1980.

At the 1:04 mark I think they liked that sweater because it looked like a "7", just like their channel.

Here's info on Fiorucci:

Sounds like it was from the 5pm edition, if Jack Jones and Terry Murphy were at the anchor desk . . .

Incidentally, Fiorucci was one of the "brand names" mentioned in Sister Sledge's "He's The Greatest Dancer," one of their 1979 hits (along with "We Are Family").

The 80s was the best decade for all things fashion.

William Zbaren is still around; he's now an architectural photographer:

Anyone want to forward him the Fuzzy Memories link? :)
